Midweek: Acts 9 – 28

One of the most impressive things about the Bible is how often God’s Word, and JUST God’s Word, is read out loud to the people.  God’s Word alone is powerful and authoritative – good for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training is righteousness – as Paul wrote to Timothy.  And so, to simply read the Bible out loud and allow the power of the Holy Spirit and the Bible to do its work is a beautiful thing.

For this Wednesday night event, we will have 50 – 55 continuous minutes of God’s Word washing over us from three readers (see below – we are serious about this event in spite of the fun we had with the bios).

The chapters we will read are the “Pauline” chapters of the book of Acts: 9 – 28 … all narrative, storytelling reading.

Dinner and fellowship first at 6:00.  Reading will begin no later than 6:30. And there will be no acting out of the narratives.  Just reading.

FRANK SWITZER

Frank Switzer will be with us as one of the readers. Frank is famous for having read out loud two Dr. Seuss books and one Family Circus comic strip — one of the strips without words – in the past 60 years. His experience will be invaluable in this reading exercise.

ASHTON PAPPE

Ashton Pappe will also be one of our readers for this evening.  A self-proclaimed “theater kid” (who never took a theater class), Ashton has performed many a monologue to an involuntary audience (usually her parents or her husband). Her imaginary 3 Tony Awards speak to her sparkling expertise, and she is excited to read at our event—for a voluntary audience this time.

BEN BAER

Rounding out our stable of readers for this event is Ben Baer.  Ben is the Kids Ministry Director at Arcadia, and can totally read (verified by several adults, one child, and at least one laminated name tag). When not leading small humans, Ben enjoys large books, long passages of Scripture, and pretending not to panic when asked to pronounce biblical place names out loud. He is honored to help read through the book of Acts and promises to use his powers for good (or at least clarity).
