Sermon Slides: 3.1.20

For you note takers out there (I'm one of them!) we recognize that sometimes the slides change before you have a chance to write everything down. We hope, in the future, that posting the slides here on our website before Sunday will not only give you a sneak peek as to what's coming on Sunday, but also help you to focus on the teaching of God's Word and not get frustrated when you don't get all of the items off of a list. See you Sunday!

“Is a person’s belief in and desire to proclaim Jesus akin to telling someone that smoking cigarettes can kill them, or akin to the fact that that my grandmother’s cooking is better than your grandmother’s?”

-Rebecca McLaughlin
Confronting Christianity

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

-Philippians 2:5-11

"You can't bypass repentance and get to grace. Christ is manifest in our humility, not our disobedience."

-Timothy Keller

In the beginning was the word. And the word was with God, and the word was God. … And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace & truth.

-John 1:1 & 14

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

-John 14:1-6

“Let not your hearts be troubled.”

“Believe in God; believe also in me.”

“In my Father’s House are many rooms.”

“I will go and prepare a place for you . . .”

“I will come again . . .”

“Thomas said to him . . .”

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

“Jesus is either a liar, a lunatic, or He is Lord. He can only be one of those three things. And the only way He is a good teacher is, in fact, if He is Lord. You are free to take your pick among the three, but you may only pick one.”

-C.S. Lewis

Why are some people okay with believing in a “higher power” but are offended by Jesus?

Why is it so important that we know that Jesus is both human and Divine?
